What Is the International Driver’s Document?
IDS provides an unofficial translation of a valid domestic driving licence, in printed and digital booklet formats, to help with language differences while travelling.
Official vs. Unofficial Status
Official International Driving Permits are issued by authorities or organisations designated by a government. IDS’s private translation has no official status and gives no additional legal driving rights.
Important Acknowledgments
You must hold and carry your valid original licence. The IDS document is supplementary, is not a state-issued licence or photo ID, and cannot be used independently of your domestic licence.
What the Document Cannot Do
- It is not proof of identity.
- It does not authorise driving in the USA or any other country.
